The Right Steps

It’s not about completing a goal every day; sometimes it’s just about taking the right steps every day.

I feel like this is something I’ve started to remind myself of a lot more lately. It first came to my mind in reference to my fitness goals. I decided I would like to focus on my health and try to progress a bit more by working out, but I didn’t know what that looked like.

The gym was always where I saw my most success in trying to reshape my body and being consistent with it, but now with my dog (Archie), I didn’t want to leave him just to go work out in a gym, especially when I could just take him on a run or do something active with him. Well, that fell through pretty quick when I realized I don’t like running, so the consistency wasn’t there.

What I finally landed on was a couple of dumbbells in my room and some push-ups. Now, you might think, “Oh wow, he’s really gonna be shredded now,” which I can hear your sarcastic tone already, but I think that’s how this ties into the phrase above.

Discovering MY WAY of working out reminded me that it’s the day-to-day actions that really push us to achieve our goal. It’s not about going to the gym to pump tons of iron a couple times, or taking Archie on runs once because it makes sense to get his energy out. It’s about finding something that works FOR ME. Something sustainable and exciting FOR ME. Something I can repeat and continue to do FOR ME. And hopefully this example will be the testament. With enough steps in the right direction, day in and day out, hopefully I will see my fitness goal realized. So how can we apply this in our lives toward work, family, or in my case, music?

It’s not about completing a goal every day; sometimes it’s just about taking the right steps every day.
