I’m Good: Behind the song

I can’t believe this song has finally been released!

This song definitely has some history and a story behind it. I first started writing “I’m Good” around 2020 when I was living in my mom’s house. I was living in my mom’s house because me and the girl I was seeing at the time broke up… but we were also living together… So off to Mom’s I went.

This was right in the heart of COVID, hence “Hard times in a cataclysm.” It seemed like the world was ending around me, and here I am stuck on heartbreak in my mom’s house. So with the stage set, I started to write out my feelings. I was locked away in my mom’s house, and I think the line “I’m good” really came from a place of me trying to convince myself that I was good. You know, me trying to manifest that even though I’m uncertain of what’s next and I’m heartbroken, I know that I’ll still be good. Well, if I keep telling myself I’m good.

And now, looking back on it almost 5 years later, it has held up. I AM GOOD.

So with the song complete, which at that point was called “Post…”, I got out of Mom’s house and moved to Denver with some friends I grew up with! (Shoutout Zach and Zayd.) I started working towards writing more music, finding members for the band, playing live shows, and looking for a good pipeline to take my songs from ideas to a completed, radio-quality song.

During all of that, this song never left my mind because there was something about it that meant so much to me that I wasn’t willing to write it off as some old idea in my voice memos. I knew eventually, when I found the right people, we could see it through to completion and release it… Which we finally did!!

This song has been worked on and worked on and worked on, but I’m so happy it evolved into what it is now and that people are responding to it so well.

With all the music I write, I want people to be able to interpret it however they want. That is my intention: to let people feel the music however it hits them. But for me, this song was about pushing through hard times. No matter what they might look like, you can be the reminder to yourself that “I’m Good” and continue to push through.

So whether you heard this song like that or not, I hope it’s something that can serve as a reminder to people that we got this. No matter how hard it gets, we just have to remind ourselves we’re good and push through!
